On December 19th we had our Special Assembly Day – “Take Refuge In Jehovah”. We are thankful to have our assemblies here in our mother tongue. It was held in Volcan at an open-air shelter so the temperature was a bit on the cool side. People were wearing coats and blankets and some had gloves. Those present were from 10 different countries and 15 different states of the union.
The attendance was 163 with only 60 of those being publishers. We welcomed a new brother and 2 new sisters into our brotherhood. One of the new baptized sisters from Changuinola started studying 8 months ago and finished the BT book in 4 months. She made her personal dedication to Jehovah when she was in chapter 5 of the book. The other new sister skipped her high school graduation ceremony in order to attend the assembly and be baptized.
From our group here in Boquete, one of Pete’s students attended and one of Jim’s. As you may have heard before, there are sometimes water issues here in Panama. That was the case there. Soon after the assembly started, the water pressure disappeared. So the brothers hurried to find a solution. They took a truck back to town, where there was water pressure, and filled several trash cans and hauled them back to the assembly sight. Certain brothers were put in charge of supplying the bathrooms with water by bringing in a bucket at a time to flush the stools and provide washing water. You can see Austin in the picture dipping a bucket. According to Lori the bathrooms became very uninviting.
Besides that the assembly was very encouraging. It was nice to have a chance to visit with our brothers from the other side of the mountain.
Now we are looking forward to our circuit assembly on May 14th & 15th in Changuinola. We will let you know how it goes.
